The fact that I didn't know where Fripp Island was wasn't a big shock, though. I am not an idiot... except for when the conversation turns to geography. Only on good days do I know the difference between New Jersey and New Guinea.
A quick google search later, I learned that Fripp Island is located off the South Carolina coast and was only about a 6 hour drive for us. So, we decided to make a family vacation out of the big event.
We rented a house on the island, packed up those sweet babies, and headed to Fripp for the week preceding Stephanie's wedding. Drew did really well during his first long car ride. Of course, Thomas the Train was playing continuously on the DVD player (sorry, Bailey) and we made one stop, letting him get out and play for a few minutes, but no crying!
Fripp has a real island feel without requiring a passport. There was amazing wildlife everywhere: rare birds, domesticated deer that would eat right out of your hand, turtles, dolphins and alligators.
In fact, our house was very close to the alligator lagoon and we were warned upon arrival not to let Drew wander around the back porch at night.... just in case an alligator was in the mood for a late-night snack.
Other than the threat of our son's possible doom, the rest of the trip was wonderful! It's hard to not enjoy yourself in a place that beautiful.
Nothing makes me happier than spending time with my husband and children. I am one lucky girl!
