Baking So Easy - Even A Child Could Do It

I love to cook! I enjoy finding new recipes and making special meals for my family. It's truly a miracle that I don't weigh 500 pounds.

But baking? That is a completely different story.

I suck at it. I mean, bad. And I don't get it, either. I follow the directions to a T, but it never seems to turn out like it's supposed to. Is there some kind of magic dust that makes a souffle rise or a banana pudding taste like... well... banana pudding? If so, please hook a sister up!

One could argue that not being able to make delicious desserts from scratch is more of a blessing than a curse, but we at the House of Hohenbery take our desserts very seriously. :)

Bailey is my little cooking protege. She is always coming up with her original recipes (some are even kind of awesome) or asking me if she can help in the kitchen. She begs to make these items without assistance, but all of you cookers and bakers out there know that most recipes require an adult hand.

But last night, we found a kid-friendly peanut butter cookie recipe. Bailey made her cookies all by herself! (The only thing that I did was take them out of the oven.) She was so proud... and they were good, too. Talk about a win-win.

Maybe the baking gene skips a generation?

So if you have a Paula Deen, Jr in your house, try this recipe on for size:

1 cup peanut butter

1 cup sugar

1 egg

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine ingredients in a mixing bowl.

Place tablespoons of cookie dough onto a well-greased cookie sheet.

Press with a fork twice, making the traditional peanut butter cookie criss-cross pattern.

Bake 10 minutes.
